Central Maine Medical Center was the first hospital in Maine to establish a 24-hour emergency service. Since opening its doors in 1931, the Emergency Services Department has also earned recognition for being one of the finest emergency care services in Maine.
CMMC's Emergency Department team includes board-certified emergency physicians, plus physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses. The department also includes a Chest Pain Center for people experiencing the symptoms of a heart attack, and the First Care Center, for walk-in patients with less serious illnesses and injuries.
In 1994 CMMC was designated as one of Maine's three trauma centers, as it has the resources needed to treat seriously injured patients. CMMC is also a home base for Lifeflight of Maine, the state's only medical helicopter service.
