CMMC's Family Medicine Residency is a 7-7-7 ACGME Certified Program with Osteopathic Recognition
Lewiston is in south central Maine. It is only 45 minutes to the mountains, 45 minutes to the ocean and just 2½ hours from Boston. Lewiston and its sister city Auburn are a cultural and services hub, yet the feeling here is definitely small-town, with a community that is warm, stable and welcoming.
Central Maine Medical Center's Family Medicine Residency program prepares physicians to practice rural family medicine. The versatility of a rural educational plan allows graduates to practice in communities with populations ranging from 500 to 500,000. Since its inception in 1978, the CMMC Family Medicine Residency program has graduated nearly 160 family physicians.
CMMC FMR is an independent, 3 year program. The Residency is based at the Oscar Treat Turner Family Medicine Center, an outpatient health center adjacent to CMMC's campus. We are the only residency in our sponsoring hospital so our residents can easily gain experience in all aspects of inpatient care. We are a 21-resident program with 7 residents in each year's class. In addition to family medicine training, CMMC FMR provides advanced training in Hospital Medicine, Geriatrics, Sports Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine by offering fellowships in these areas. CMMC FMR also provides training opportunities to third-and fourth-year medical students.
