About
Neurosurgeons provide the operative and non-operative management (i.e., prevention, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, critical care and rehabilitation) of neurological disorders. Because neurosurgeons have extensive training in the diagnosis of all neurological diseases, they are often called upon by emergency room doctors, neurologists, internists, family practitioners, orthopedic surgeons, and osteopaths for consultations. The age range for neurological surgery patients is typically 17 and older, but in injuries resulting from trauma the age range is based on the individual needs of the patient and the ability of the facility to best accommodate those needs.
Neurosurgeons treat patients with: head and spine trauma cerebrovascular disorders, including: brain aneurysms and vascular malformations brain and spinal tumors tremor, Parkinson's and other movement disorders brain and spine disorders, including: cervical spine disorders chronic low back pain herniated disk hydrocephalus lumbar spinal stenosis stroke (brain attack) trigeminal neuralgia brain and spinal tumors.
