Experienced Physician Accepting New Patients in Lakes Region Community
Bridgton Hospital is pleased to announce its affiliation with a new specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. Joseph Bell, D.O., an experienced doctor who has been in temporary practice in Bridgton but who previously provided care in Wisconsin and the Mountain West, will see patients for a full array of obstetric and gynecologic care, including surgery.
“We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Bell, whose breadth of experience is impressive,” said Interim Hospital Administrator Jill Rollins. “He will offer high quality of care to the women of the Lakes Region, right here in Bridgton.”
Bell, who has been practicing medicine for more than 30 years, said he chose his specialty because it allows him to combine medicine and surgery, both of which he finds very rewarding. The field also allows him to communicate closely with patients and get to know them as individuals, he said.
“I believe medicine is both an art and a science,” Bell said. “A professor I respect once said that evidence-based medicine is important, but so is compassion, communications, common sense and good clinical judgment. I believe in today’s world, we sometimes lose sight of these important points. No patient fits every randomized controlled study.”
Aside from practicing medicine, Bell enjoys spending time with his family (which, he is careful to mention, includes his lovely wife Lynne, four grown children, two dogs and two cats who “succeed in making me a better person”) and officiating at ski races. He is a certified U.S. Ski and Snowboard race official and was a start timer at the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Bell will offer complete OB-GYN care and full gynecologic practice at Bridgton Obstetrics-Gynecology. He is accepting new patients and his office is at 15 Hospital Drive. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call: 207-647-4240.
