Bridgton Hospital presented its most recent Sunshine Award to Stacey Desjardins, RT, the hospital’s night Radiology Tech.
The Sunshine Award was established to reward and celebrate the extraordinary skills and compassionate care given by technical support staff. Sunshine Award recipients consistently demonstrate compassion, patient and family focused care, passion about life, patient advocacy, and their support of all healthcare team members.
Desjardins was nominated for her willingness to help wherever she is needed and going above and beyond as a Bridgton Hospital team member. Her motivation has led her to become certified in CT and X-ray, as well as training in mammography to ensure she can help out in all areas of her specialty. In addition to her imaging duties, she readily volunteers to clean rooms and help out in the Emergency Department (ED) when needed.
The nomination story recounted the night a patient came in to the ED with back pain, but shortly after became unresponsive. As everyone rushed to the room as did Desjardins, who grabbed the necessary equipment, placed the patient on a cardiac monitor, and helped perform compressions. Once the patient was stable, Desjardins helped clear the trauma bay and clean the bay after the patient was transferred.
Her co-workers describe her as a “godsend”, and Desjardins’ personable and compassionate demeanor personify Central Maine Healthcare’s mission to touch the lives of patients and their families and elevate the communities the system serves.
