Hospital seeks new items for patients in need
RUMFORD—They say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, so Rumford Hospital’s annual clothing drive is seeking all-season garments– everything from warm socks and jackets to t-shirts, jeans and shoes—to benefit Emergency Room patients who need a change of clothes when they leave the hospital.
New items—hospital policy prohibits accepting used garments—will be collected all month and distributed to those patients whose own clothes have been discarded in the ER.
“We sometimes have patients who arrive at the hospital after a fire, and need clothes appropriate for discharge, or patients whose clothes are taken into evidence after assault. Others arrive after an accident when their clothes are damaged or need to be cut off,” said Beth Ring, Emergency Department manager.
“We care for our patients from the time they come in until they leave, including making sure they are appropriately clothed.”
All sizes, ages and seasons of casual garments will be gratefully accepted, Ring said, although they typically need more adult than child-size clothes.
Clothes for the drive may be dropped off in the lobby of Rumford Hospital each day during March.
