Maine Urgent Care

“Virtual Visits” Debut at Maine Urgent Care

Published on April 14, 2020

LEWISTON, Maine — Mainers can now get care for a variety of health issues–from minor illnesses and allergy symptoms to bumps, bruises and bug bites—all while practicing appropriate social distancing. In fact, they don’t need to even leave home, by taking advantage of Maine Urgent Care’s new “virtual visits” program.

The program launched today connects providers from MUC’s two locations—Lewiston and Topsham—with patients who reserve a time online.  The “virtual visit” is a convenient, accessible and safe way to get care for low acuity conditions without having to wait in a doctor’s office or a busy Emergency Room.  Patients aged six months and up will be seen.

“We can help people stay out of the ER, not to mention lower their exposure to the coronavirus and diminish its spread,” said Melissa Caccamo, director of ambulatory and retail service for Central Maine Healthcare. “With a few steps they can be online with a provider while they sit in their living room.”

Once patients reserve their spot online at www.maineurgentcare.com,  (between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.) they will be walked through a process that  includes providing a driver’s license and proof of insurance and taking care of  any charges they might be responsible for, before connecting with a provider.  In addition to diagnosis and instructions for care, MUC can also refill one  month’s worth of non-narcotic prescription or refer patients to specialty  clinics. Abdominal and chest pain patients cannot be treated and should call  their primary care providers or visit the ER.

About Maine Urgent Care

MAINE URGENT CARE was founded in 2018 with a mission to provide truly convenient, high quality medical care to the communities of central Maine. The walk-in clinics in Topsham and Lewiston are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week to provide prompt medical treatment, as well as convenient services such as physicals, X-Rays, lab testing, and vaccinations. Maine Urgent Care is a faster, more affordable alternative to the Emergency Room.

As a partner of Central Maine Healthcare, Maine Urgent Care is able to connect patients with hundreds of medical providers and specialty services, so they can easily get the care they need, when they need it.

LEWISTON, March 25—The Lewiston-Auburn community emergency, has a brand-new, affordable and convenient option for caring for life’s minor injuries and illnesses. Maine Urgent Care, one of only two nationally accredited urgent care clinics in Maine, opened its second location today on Sabattus Street.

The clinic, which also diagnostic services including X-ray and lab services, is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. Central Maine Healthcare also offers a Maine Urgent Care location in Topsham.

“We’re here for the community, at a much lower cost than a visit to the emergency room,” said Melissa Caccamo, CMH system director of ambulatory and retail services. “And, during the COVID-19 public health crisis, we are committed to keeping our patients safe and out of the emergency room as much as possible.”

New Urgent Care Clinic Coming to Lewiston-Auburn

LEWISTON, Maine — The Lewiston-Auburn community will have a new source of convenient, affordable, walk-in healthcare—everything from flu shots to stitches—with a Maine Urgent Care center coming in February.

The clinic, operated by Central Maine Healthcare, is currently under construction at 685 Sabattus Street in Lewiston and is scheduled to open in late winter. As part of CMH’s vision to increase access to care through a distributed network of ambulatory health centers, Maine Urgent Care will offer patients with minor illnesses and injuries a more convenient and less expensive alternative to a hospital Emergency Department. The clinic will provide diagnostics including X-ray and lab services.

“We want to offer our patients the care they need, where and when they need it and at a good price point,” said Melissa Caccamo, CMH’s system director of ambulatory and retail services. “Whether you need to be seen for life’s everyday bumps and bruises, a flu shot, or even something more emergent, you don’t need to schedule an appointment with your primary care provider or wait in an emergency room.”  The cost of care outside the four walls of a hospital is lower too, she said. Most insurance plans will be recognized and the clinic will offer accessible pricing for self-pay patients.

A number of providers, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants supervised by a medical doctor who directs the clinic, will see patients in the brand-new two-story building. Hiring is under way for about 20 staff members. The accessible first floor, about 4,800 square feet, will include all patient and clinical areas such as exam rooms, lab facilities, an X-ray suite and comfortable waiting rooms. The second floor will house IT functions and some administrative work space.

No appointments will be necessary, but patients will be able to reserve a spot online and check wait times.

The Lewiston location is the second of a planned network of ambulatory care centers for Central Maine Healthcare. The first, Maine Urgent Care in Topsham, is one of only two fully accredited urgent care clinics in Maine. It opened just over a year ago and has seen 8,000 patients from more than 80 communities, Caccamo said.

The Lewiston clinic will be open daily 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Ample parking will be available.
