Rumford Hospital offers bone density screening, which can help patients learn if they have osteoporosis or are at risk.
Osteoporosis is a disease which causes bone density to decrease and leaves people more vulnerable to fractures. It is most commonly found in post-menopausal women, although men may also be diagnosed.
A quick and painless screening test is available, using a dual-energy absorptiometry X-ray, which is more commonly known as DXA or DEXA. One or two areas of the body typically are scanned.
Discuss your bone health with your healthcare provider to see if you might be a candidate for bone density screening. For more information, call 207-369-1131.
