For expectant patients planning to deliver babies at Rumford Hospital, Central Maine Healthcare will be diverting these patients beginning at 7:00 A.M. February 24th until March 27th at 12:00 P.M. in response to a temporary gap in team member coverage. Any patients with an emergent need will be assessed and treated onsite or transported to Central Maine Medical Center (or the facility of their choice).

What Sets Us Apart
Private and comfortable birthing rooms: You’ll get your own private room that is all-inclusive, meaning you’ll get to settle in before birth and stay through postpartum. We offer comfort options such as labor tubs to help ease you through your labor and each room includes a television to help you pass the time. We’ve also made our rooms to be large enough, so you can have a support person with you always, including overnight!
Caring team: We want to ensure that you are physically, emotionally, and educationally prepared for birth. That’s why the doctors and midwives at Rumford Hospital, along with the nurses and childbirth educators, have created educational guides to help you understand the birth process and how to care for your new baby.
Alternative pain relief options: We now offer Pro-Nox Nitrous Oxide, a safe and natural alternative to help relieve the pain and anxiety of labor and delivery during natural childbirth. You can use this option in short spans throughout your labor when you feel like you need it and then resume your other methods of coping through the labor process.
Breastfeeding-supportive birthing center: We have qualified lactation consultants who are also registered nurses. They can take the time to help you learn to successfully breastfeed your newborn, troubleshoot any frustrations or issues, and offer encouragement. They can also help once you’ve left the hospital and are just a phone call away!
Classes for the whole family: Prenatal services available through the birthing center include our childbirth education classes and a sibling class for your older children. Learn how to prepare for birth and care for a newborn while your children learn what to expect and how to get ready to be a big sister or brother!
