When you can’t lose weight, don’t lose hope. Our Bariatric surgeons perform a variety of weight loss procedures for life-changing success. That includes gastric sleeve, also called sleeve gastrectomy, which may be an effective treatment option if you have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or BMI of 35 with two other health concerns that are associated with obesity, and have tried to lose weight without lasting results.
Whenever possible, our surgeons perform this procedure laparoscopically, which often means less pain and scarring, fewer complications and faster recovery. And you’ll have the support of a dedicated team throughout your journey — from pre-operative education to long-term follow-up care.
A board-certified surgeon will provide in-depth information about the procedure and answer any questions to help you make the best decision for your life.
About Sleeve Gastrectomy
During the procedure, a portion of the stomach is removed to form a small sleeve, roughly the size and shape of a thin banana. After the operation, you will feel full faster and have a decreased desire for food. This surgery also decreases the amount of hormones in the stomach that increase appetite.
- Limits amount of food that can be eaten at one time as well as the desire to eat
- Decreases chance of ulcers occurring with use of certain medications, compared to gastric bypass
- Decreased chance of nutritional deficiencies, since food passes through your stomach and small intestines normally
You should discuss all potential benefits and risks with your surgeon while deciding on the procedure that is right for you.
