Radiation oncologists at the Cancer Care Center at Central Maine Medical Center, assisted by an experienced professional staff, use high-energy radiation to treat cancer. These doctors have advanced training and years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of cancer patients using both electrically generated radiation and radioactive materials. They are essential members of the cancer treatment physician team, contributing to the management of a cancer patient's care. Radiation therapy is an effective therapy for cancer by itself, but is often combined with surgery or chemotherapy, or both, for optimal treatment. CMMC's radiation therapy center is dedicated in honor of the late Cynthia A. Rydholm, an Auburn businesswoman who provided significant financial support for the center's development.
