At Central Maine Medical Center, we understand that hospitals can feel overwhelming, especially in times of illness or crisis. To support the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—we welcome you to the Sacred Space, located in the light-filled Young Wing atrium. The Sacred Space is designed to be a place of peace, prayer, and respite in the midst of a busy hospital. It is open to patients, families, visitors, and team members of every faith tradition—or of none at all.
Features of the Sacred Space
Meditation and Prayer Room: A quiet room where individuals or small groups may gather for prayer services, meditation, or personal reflection.
Multi-Faith Resources: Bibles, the Qur’an, and other devotional readings are available, along with prayer rugs and a compass to help Muslim guests face Mecca during prayer.
Comfortable Lounge: A welcoming area with soft chairs for reading, journaling, or quiet conversation.
Kitchenette: A small space for light refreshments or family gatherings, providing a supportive environment during long hospital visits.
Light and Space: With natural light streaming through the atrium windows, the Sacred Space offers calm and comfort amid the demands of medical care.
This space reflects the rich spiritual diversity of Lewiston–Auburn, welcoming Christians seeking prayer or sacraments, Jewish families seeking reflection or scripture, Muslim guests observing daily prayers, Buddhists and Hindus practicing meditation, and anyone in need of stillness.
Whether for a few moments of quiet breathing, the sharing of a prayer, or time spent with loved ones, the Sacred Space is here for you—a place of healing presence in the heart of our hospital.
