CMH Volunteers are the health system’s community ambassadors for healthy and compassionate living. Our volunteers serve patients, support families, and assist CMH team members in delivering healthcare services with compassion, competence and dignity.
We welcome and encourage you to consider joining our volunteer family. As a CMH volunteer, you have the opportunity to take pleasure in knowing you are helping others, but will also gain new skills and develop lasting friendships with other volunteers.

Specialized Volunteer Program Offerings
At Central Maine Healthcare, we have special programs that are offered system-wide that are an important part of the patient experience. Volunteers are an important part of the success of these programs.
Pet Therapy Program
this program provides patients the opportunity to express themselves by relating to animals. For many patients, it improves their sense of well-being. The unconditional love from a Pet Therapy visit is an important part of healing for many of our patients.
Patient Representative Program
This program features volunteers who visit newly admitted patients. The volunteer seeks to openly discuss the quality of care they are receiving while at one of our facilities. We have found that this program has allowed us to make improvements due to a patient’s single voice.
Junior Volunteer Program
Central Maine Healthcare offers a Junior Volunteer Program that is based on need within each facility. Junior volunteers are 14 to 17 year olds who want to make a difference in their community by assisting others in a medical environment.
Project Team
This program is a clerical based program where we have volunteers that can be available on-call to assist with hospital events, paperwork collating, and any other office function.
Caring Stitchers
We invite knitters to make handmade blankets, lap robes, sweaters, etc. for patients within our facilities. You can be a current volunteer within our program, or someone who knits at home for benefit of our patients. This is a special group of talented individuals that come together to give our patients a special gift to take home with them after their stay with us.
Mended Hearts
Mended Hearts is a national and community-based non-profit organization that partners with CMHC to offer the gift of hope to heart disease patients, their families and caregivers. You must be a person affected by heart disease to be a volunteer in this program.
