New Physician Executive at Central Maine Healthcare – Highly Regarded Physician and Leader Starts New Role

Published on July 1, 2019

Jason KruppDr. Jason Krupp, M.D., FACP, a widely respected leader with a track record of helping health systems create a robust culture of provider engagement, will become Chief Physician Executive of Central Maine Healthcare this summer.

In this role, Dr. Krupp will lead the system’s more than 300 providers, overseeing all matters involving provider performance and clinical programs, and be responsible for leading efforts toward more value-based care, CMH officials said.  Reporting directly to CEO Jeff Brickman, Dr. Krupp will also be tasked with maintaining and improving CMH’s upward trajectories in quality of care, patient access and experience, and provider satisfaction.

“Dr. Krupp brings an approachable, highly communicative style and a deep understanding of the providers’ role to this complex new position,” Brickman said. “At health systems large and small, he has had a positive impact on performance, quality and outcomes. We couldn’t be more delighted to welcome him to our organization, and to Maine.”

Most recently, Dr. Krupp served as senior vice president for physician practice services at Community Health Systems, based in Franklin, Tenn. In that role, he had operational, quality and financial oversight for providers across 19 states serving 100 communities.  A board-certified internal medicine specialist, Krupp also served in leadership roles at Catholic Health Initiatives in Omaha, Nebraska and at Banner Health in Phoenix. He has held multiple roles, including chief medical officer, at hospitals in Arizona and Massachusetts.

“I am so excited to be joining the CMH team in serving Maine,” Dr. Krupp said. “I believe in the strategic direction of the organization, to provide top notch, high-value care in Central Maine that is highly accessible. Access to care is key to improving the health of our communities, and enhancing that access will be a top priority for me. We have an amazing group of physicians, providers and staff supporting our communities, and new ones are joining monthly. This is an exciting time to join this organization.”

A native of Boston, Dr. Krupp received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and has practiced, worked and lived across the country. He and his family have been returning to Maine every summer for 30 years. His oldest son is a student at Bowdoin College, and he and his wife Tara have three younger sons at home.

Dr. Krupp begins his new role on August 5. He will be based in Lewiston.

He understands the importance of rural hospitals to the communities they serve.”

Wright begins his new role in mid-March.
