Rumford Hospital and Bridgton Hospital introduce innovative ER scheduling tool  “FastTrackCare”

August 19, 2026 by Jim Cyr

Rumford Hospital and Bridgton Hospital, members of Central Maine Healthcare and the Prime Healthcare Foundation, have announced that their valued patients can now conveniently select an approximate arrival time for non-life-threatening emergency-room visits at Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. FastTrackCare offers an enhanced emergency room experience, furthering the hospital’s mission to provide high-quality, compassionate care to patients where and when they need it.

The technology allows patients to select an approximate time-via the hospitals’ main webpage- to be seen in the Emergency Department. Patients fill out a brief, secure form, and no username or password is required. The tool can notify the patient if there is a change that may extend the wait time, and a notification can even be sent if there has been a reduction in surge to encourage an earlier arrival time.

Importantly, FastTrackCare is intended only for non-life or limb-threatening emergencies. In a life-threatening emergency, patients should call 911 immediately.

“This online scheduling tool remains an important part of our mission to improve access to care and enhance the patient experience,” said Stephany Jacques, RN, MSN, president of Rumford Hospital and Bridgton Hospital. “Our hospitals are deeply committed to the the Lakes Region and River Valley, and we are continually working to expand access and bring the most innovative and needed medical services closer to home.”

The easy-to-use tool provides added convenience for those with non-life-threatening medical needs. While appointments cannot be explicitly guaranteed due to the variable nature of an emergency department, the tool still allows patients insight into current wait times and increases communication through the notification features.

For critical symptoms, such as severe injury, chest pain, shortness of breath, or signs of stroke or heart attack, community members are encouraged, as always, to call 911.

How FastTrackCare Works:

  • Patients complete a brief, secure form in English or Spanish; no username or password is required.
  • The system assigns the next available time slot and reserves the patient’s place in line.
  • A confirmation with details and directions is sent immediately.
  • Real-time notifications alert patients if changing conditions affect the expected arrival time.

For more information, or to reserve an ED arrival time, visit Bridgton Hospital – Central Maine Healthcare or Rumford Hospital – Central Maine Healthcare.

Four-decade Bridgton Hospital nurse is winner of DAISY Award

August 7, 2026 by Jim Cyr

Elaine Drew, RN, is the latest Central Maine Healthcare winner of the DAISY Award.

The DAISY award is an international recognition program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care nurses give every day. Nurses can be nominated by patients or co-workers.

Elaine Drew has been with Central Maine Healthcare for almost 45 years. She is the program coordinator for the Bridgton Hospital Diabetes Clinic. When she’s not working at the hospital, Elaine can often be found donating her time at local food pantries and providing free blood pressure screenings, diabetes education and wellness screenings to members of the community.

Elaine was nominated by Stephany Jacques, RN, MSN, president of Bridgton Hospital.

“A specific criterion named by the DAISY Foundation is for a recipient to create a culture that empowers and supports all team members,” Jacques said. “The nurse we are honoring today ensures others around her are acknowledged for their hard work and efforts while quietly standing by, enjoying seeing other nurses and team members be recognized.

“Wherever there is community gathering for the greater good, you can find Elaine. She brings caring for the community to a whole new level.”

Bridgton Hospital Emergency Department nurse recipient of DAISY Award

July 2, 2026 by Jim Cyr

Matt Holzinger, RN, an Emergency Department nurse at Bridgton Hospital, was recently presented with a DAISY Award for the exceptional care, compassion and reassurance he provided to a patient and family during a medical emergency.

The DAISY Award is an international program that recognizes nurses for their compassionate care and the difference they make in patients’ lives. Patients, their families, visitors, physicians and other staff can nominate a nurse for the award.

After a teenager was transported to Bridgton Hospital’s Emergency Department following a seizure-like event, Matt helped ensure he received prompt, attentive care. Family members described Matt as a calming and reassuring presence during an understandably frightening experience. His compassionate demeanor, clear communication and willingness to thoroughly answer questions helped ease their anxiety and build confidence in the care being provided.

The family also praised Matt’s warm personality, sense of humor and professionalism, noting that he balanced clinical expertise with genuine kindness.

Matt’s dedication to keeping the family informed and supported left a lasting impression during a time of uncertainty,” said Stephany Jacques, president of Bridgton Hospital. “Through his exceptional nursing care, empathy and commitment to patient- and family-centered care, Matt exemplifies the values of the DAISY Award.”

Rumford Hospital Emergency Department earns Gold for stroke care

June 26, 2026 by Jim Cyr

For the second straight year, Rumford Hospital’s Emergency Department has received the American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines Stroke Rural Recognition Gold Award.

The ED was once again recognized for its efforts to optimize stroke care and reduce gaps in rural healthcare outcomes. Performance metrics include intravenous thrombolytic therapy, timely hospital inter-facility transfer, dysphagia screening, symptom timeline and deficit assessment documentation, emergency medical services communication, brain imaging and stroke expert consultation.

People who live in rural areas have a 40% higher likelihood of developing heart disease and face a 30% increased risk for stroke mortality, according to an American Heart Association’s presidential advisory on rural health. The award confirms that Rumford Hospital is committed to changing that.

“We are incredibly proud that our team at the Rumford Hospital ED is being recognized for the important work they do every day to improve the lives of people in the River Valley who are affected by stroke, giving them the best possible chance of recovery and survival,” said Stephany Jacques, president of Rumford Hospital. “I’m proud of our team’s commitment to stroke care excellence and of this achievement.”
