The Woman’s Hospital Association (WHA) Rotating Art Gallery will feature paintings by Elisabeth Salberg and photography by Lisa Parker through the month of February. The gallery is located at 60 High Street in Lewiston, the main entrance to Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC).
Salberg began painting four years ago after retiring from a life-long career as a Registered Nurse. A resident of Auburn, her work has been on display in Portland, Kennebunkport, Belfast, Brunswick, Falmouth, and Lewiston. Salberg is also a member of Maine Women in the Arts. Her other work can be viewed on her website www.oilpaintingsofmaine.com
“I fell in love with the world of art many years ago when I studied art history at Duke University, but life took me down an altogether different path. It was not until I retired that I allowed myself the luxury and the hard work of striving to become an artist and work with oils. The beauty I see in Maine is a constant inspiration, and quite a challenge, as I try to transform my world of color, shape and light into a painting,” said Salberg of her work.
Parker started her journey to photography as a hobby, until a friend complimented her photos and suggested she share her talent. In that moment she realized photography was more than a hobby for her. Parker hopes that the audience finds as much pleasure in looking at the photos as she gets from taking them.
“I enjoyed taking pictures evidencing my adventures, the simplistic beauty of my surroundings, and the intricacies of nature. I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit a few incredible sites from Maine to the Big Island of Hawai’i. While it isn’t possible to capture the feeling I felt when in Hawai’i, I am able to share the beauty with you. When I see those photos, all of those feelings come to the surface,” shared Parker.
The artists’ work may be purchased through the WHA Gift Shop, located adjacent to the main lobby at Central Maine Medical Center. A percentage of sale proceeds benefits CMMC.
