Dear nurse colleagues,
I thought I would take a moment to share and perhaps remind folks what our professional practice model of care is in nursing. It is called Relationship-Based Care ®. This model focuses on three key relationships:
- The relationship with self
- The relationship with colleagues
- The relationship with patients and families
The fundamentals of creating this healing culture is believing that self-awareness is critical to being able to care for others. Personal ownership of your work and how to do your work is also key. Lastly, the commitment to human connection ties this all together. When we develop healthy relationships with self, team members and patients then safe quality care happens.
Now you may wonder how we connect what we say with what we do. Our focus on teamwork, bedside handoff, and improving how well we work together is where this connects. The eight dimensions of this practice model evidenced in our nursing philosophy and vision are:
- Patient and family in the center
- Healing culture
- Teamwork
- Interprofessional practice
- Care delivery
- System design
- Evidence
- Leadership
Stay tuned for next week as we start to explore these dimensions and what you can do to create a healing culture.
Respectfully,
Kris Chaisson
