Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) team members today provided a touching sendoff to discharged patient.
One of the three remaining patients at CMMC who arrived at the hospital following the mass casualty incident in Lewiston on Oct. 25 was discharged on Monday, Nov. 13.
CMMC doctors, nurses and team members lined the hall that leads to the main entrance to pay silent and respectful tribute to the patient leaving the hospital after a two-and-a-half-week stay.
As the patient was wheeled down the hall, team members put their hands on their hearts in a gesture of solidarity and empathy.
“We felt that given what happened to this community on October 25, a silent, heartfelt tribute was appropriate,” said Kris Chaisson, RN, chief nursing officer.
“The doctors, nurses and team members who have cared for these patients wanted to acknowledge this milestone, while at the same time remain mindful that this patient, and many of us, have a long road ahead.”
The two remaining patients from the Oct. 25 incidents are both in stable condition.
On the evening of the tragedy, Central Maine Medical Center assembled a team of more than a dozen surgeons with expertise in orthopedics, cardiovascular, thoracic, colorectal, plastic, urologic and general surgery. They were aided by more than 100 other physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals, all of whom received training in mass casualty incidents.
The doctors, nurses and team members of CMMC extend our deepest condolences to everyone affected by this tragic event.
