Orthopaedic Services
Rumford Hospital hosts an orthopaedics service for patients of all ages. Healthcare providers from Central Maine Healthcare Orthopedics are at Rumford Hospital Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Orthopaedics deals with the musculoskeletal system, including bones, muscles, joints and ligaments. Orthopedic surgeons treat trauma to the musculoskeletal system (such as broken bones), infections, sports-related injuries, congenital disorders, degenerative diseases and growths/tumors. Treatments may include surgery and physical or occupational therapy.
Orthopedics has many sub-specialties, so patients may be referred to a doctor who specializes in one area of the body or a particular patient population. Specialties include pediatrics, hands, shoulders, elbows, spine, joint replacement, ankles and feet.
For patients recovering from orthopaedic injury and/or surgery, Rumford Hospital has a comprehensive therapy services department.
