Advancing cancer services through a team-based approach to care
Central Maine Healthcare (CMH) today announced that renowned surgeon, Lisa A. Rutstein, MD has joined its medical staff to lead the surgical oncology program for the System.
Dr. Rutstein is a fellowship-trained oncology surgeon with more than 15 years of experience, whose chief area of interest is in the treatment of stomach, intestinal, gallbladder, pancreas and liver cancer, as well as breast and skin malignancy. “I’m thrilled to have joined the surgery and oncology teams at Central Maine Healthcare. I have seen first-hand how CMH is investing in a truly multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, and our affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital enables us to give patients access to all of the latest treatment options and a full array of clinical research trials.” said Dr. Rutstein.
Dr. Rutstein is recognized for her regional treatment programs and palliative care for patients with advanced stages of cancer. She is certified by the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) and the American Board of Surgery, is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and served as the Maine state physician liaison to the Commission on Cancer for eight years. She has served in teaching positions through various academic appointments, including work as an assistant professor of surgery at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

A cum laude graduate of McGill University in Montreal, she earned her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Mass. Dr. Rutstein completed a Society of Surgical Oncology approved fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. She served her surgical residency at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
