Injuries happen when you least expect them, but rest assured: the Orthopaedic Institute of Central Maine is always ready to respond.
Our board-certified orthopaedic surgeons provide around-the-clock coverage at Central Maine Healthcare emergency rooms, including the Level II Trauma Center at Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) in Lewiston – one of just a few in the entire region equipped to handle the most complex traumas.
OICM surgeons work closely with each hospital’s emergency physicians and support staff to respond to serious injuries involving any or all of the following:
- Bones
- Entire joints
- Ligaments
- Muscles
- Tendons
- Nerves
- Soft tissue
Seamless, Coordinated Care
Following initial diagnosis and treatment in the ER, orthopaedic trauma patients who undergo surgery are frequently transferred to the OICM unit, where they’ll receive our unique Core Connect Care ℠ team approach to care from specialized orthopaedic physicians, nurses, case managers and social workers. That also includes work with our physical therapists, who design custom orthopaedic rehabilitation programs to help ensure a smooth recovery and return to maximum function.
Only Hip Fracture Program of Its Kind in Maine
The OICM Hip Fracture Program, offered at Central Maine Medical Center, has earned national certification from the Joint Commission for providing the highest standards of safety and care for hip fracture care.
Using the latest medical research, the program relies less on bed rest and more on getting the body moving sooner. The result – especially for our elderly patients – is often a faster recovery, fewer complications and a better quality of life.
